AI Transparency — Younen

Last updated: June 4, 2026

UniTalk includes AI features, most visibly Younen, a study assistant. This page explains what Younen is, what it can and can't do, and how your information is handled. It is governed by our Privacy Policy.

What Younen is

Younen is an AI assistant powered by third-party models. It helps with study planning, deadlines, course questions, and general university life. It is not a human and not UniTalk staff.

Younen can be wrong

What information Younen uses

To answer well, Younen may use your university, year, and major; your course list and upcoming calendar events; the text extracted from syllabi for your courses; degree-requirement information; and the message and any image you send it.

Where your questions go

We send only the context needed. Please don't enter unnecessary personal or sensitive information into Younen.

Data handling

Younen conversations are used to provide the feature. We don't sell them or use them for advertising. Content sent to OpenAI and Tavily is subject to those providers' terms, summarized below.

OpenAI: we use the OpenAI API. OpenAI API data is not used to train OpenAI's models by default. OpenAI may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days to provide the service and detect abuse, unless a different retention setting applies. See OpenAI's privacy policy.

Tavily: web-search queries are processed by AlphaAI Technologies Inc. (doing business as Tavily) under its privacy policy.

You control your data as described in the Privacy Policy and Privacy Choices, including account deletion.

Academic integrity & reporting

Don't use Younen to cheat or violate your school's academic-integrity policy. If Younen produces harmful, offensive, or seriously inaccurate output, email team@unitalk.ca.
