Privacy Choices

How to exercise your privacy rights and control your data. This supplements our Privacy Policy. To make any request, email team@unitalk.ca — we respond within 30 days.
Access & correction
Email team@unitalk.ca for an access report. Most profile details are editable in-app (Profile → Edit Profile).
Manage your institutional affiliations
UniTalk supports one account with multiple verified institutional emails. Verify an additional institutional email if you're affiliated with more than one supported school, and remove a secondary institution you no longer want linked. Your primary institution stays with your account while it's active.
Delete your account
In the app: Profile → Edit Profile → Delete Account. Your access is disabled immediately; within 10 days your personal information, profile photo, and any voice recordings you sent are deleted or anonymized and your login is destroyed. Deletion is final and cannot be undone. Messages you posted in shared course/project/direct chats are retained in anonymized form ("Deleted User") so conversations stay readable, and shared syllabi remain attached to the course. To remove specific messages first, delete them individually before requesting deletion, or ask team@unitalk.ca. Certain limited records may be kept longer only where reasonably necessary to comply with law, maintain security, investigate abuse, or resolve disputes.
Withdraw consent
- Notifications, Camera, Photos, Microphone, Face ID: manage in iOS Settings → UniTalk.
- Profile visibility (year, courses, LinkedIn, online status, read receipts): Privacy & Security in the app.
- To withdraw consent for all processing, delete your account.
Manage who can contact you
Block a user from their profile → Block. Manage blocks in Privacy & Security → Blocked Users. Blocking prevents DMs between you and that person and hides their messages from you in course chats.
Data portability
Request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format by emailing team@unitalk.ca.
"Do Not Sell or Share"
UniTalk does not sell or share your personal information for advertising, so there is currently nothing to opt out of. If that ever changes, we'll update this page, provide advance notice, and add a working opt-out/consent mechanism before any such use begins.
Complaints
Email team@unitalk.ca, or contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca).
