Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the UniTalk mobile app and related services (the "Service"), operated by UniTalk ("we", "our", "us"). By using the app you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Changes

We may modify these Terms; for material changes we'll notify you in-app or by email before they take effect. Continued use means acceptance.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16, a current student (or faculty/staff) at a supported institution with a valid institutional email, and registering for your own personal, non-commercial use as a human (no bots). If you are 16 or 17 (under 18), you confirm a parent/guardian has consented.

3. Account, identity & institutional emails

You may maintain one UniTalk identity and verify multiple institutional email addresses if you are legitimately affiliated with more than one supported institution; each institutional email must be issued to you. You may not create deceptive duplicate accounts, share verification codes, impersonate another person, or use an institutional email that is not yours. Provide accurate information, keep your password confidential, and notify team@unitalk.ca of unauthorized access. You're responsible for activity under your account. Email verification is mandatory before an institutional email unlocks access. Authentication is provided by Supabase Auth; we don't store your password.

4. Acceptable use

You will not harass, threaten, or post hateful content; spam, scam, or impersonate; facilitate academic dishonesty; dox others; upload illegal content or child-exploitation material (reported to law enforcement immediately); distribute malware; or attack, scrape, or reverse-engineer the Service. 5. Your content

You own the messages, images, files, voice messages, calendar entries, and syllabi you submit. You grant UniTalk a limited license to store, reproduce, transmit, and display your content solely to operate the Service (e.g., showing your message to others in the same chat, generating an AI response, extracting deadlines from a syllabus). This ends when your content or account is deleted — except that content posted in shared chats may be retained in anonymized form after deletion, as described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Chats, DMs, syllabi & voice messages

Course/project chats are visible to members; DMs to the recipient. Syllabi you upload are processed by AI to extract course information and deadlines. Don't upload material you don't have the right to share.

7. AI assistant ("Younen")

Using AI features, you acknowledge that your prompts, attached images, and relevant context (including extracted syllabus text, your courses, year, and major) are sent to third-party AI providers (OpenAI; Tavily for web search). AI output may be inaccurate and is not professional, academic, legal, medical, or financial advice. AI-generated schedule events do not replace official university deadlines — always confirm with your institution. Don't use AI features to cheat. See AI Transparency.

8. Moderation, reporting & blocking

UniTalk has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Objectionable content includes, without limitation, harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content, content that exploits minors, and any content that violates Acceptable Use.

You can report a message (long-press → Report) and block a user (their profile → Block). Blocking takes effect immediately, hides the blocked user's content from you, and flags the interaction to us for review. We act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours by removing the content and ejecting (suspending or terminating) the user who provided it. Depending on severity we may also warn, report conduct to institutions, or report criminal conduct to law enforcement. Appeals: team@unitalk.ca.

9. Suspension, termination & deletion

We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations. You may request deletion anytime (Profile → Edit Profile → Delete Account); access is disabled promptly and your account information is deleted or anonymized within 10 days. Deletion is final and cannot be undone. Content posted in shared chats may remain in anonymized form where necessary to preserve shared conversations and course resources, or to comply with applicable law — see the Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We don't warrant it will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that content (including AI output and syllabus extraction) is accurate. UniTalk is not the official channel for your courses — rely on your institution's official sources for critical academic information.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, UniTalk is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service or the conduct of other users. Where liability cannot be excluded, it applies to the greatest extent permitted by law.

12. Intellectual property

UniTalk's name, logo, design, and software are owned by UniTalk and protected by law. Don't copy, modify, sell, or reverse-engineer the Service or use our marks without permission.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. Before any formal proceeding, contact team@unitalk.ca to try to resolve the dispute informally.
